Earthmoving and yellow goods finance
Finance for excavators, loaders, skid steers and other earthmoving equipment: what lenders look for, used machines and how to structure it.
- New and used machines
- Bank and non-bank lenders
- No obligation
In a nutshell
Earthmoving equipment finance, often called yellow goods finance, funds excavators, loaders, skid steers, graders, dozers and forklifts, with the machine itself as security. Terms usually run 2 to 7 years, new or used machines are both financed, and some lenders don't restrict the age or brand of the equipment. Lenders look at your ABN and GST history, your work pipeline and the machine's age and hours. Depending on the lender, decisions can be as quick as a few hours.

What lenders look at
Age and hours
Lenders look at the machine's age now and at the end of the term, and at engine hours. Older or high-hour machines may need a shorter term or a deposit.
Your work pipeline
Contracts, a strong order book or a steady client base help, particularly for newer contractors and larger machines.
Seasonal cash flow
If your work is seasonal, ask about repayment structures that match it, or a balloon to lower regular repayments.
Private and auction purchases
Many lenders finance machines bought privately or at auction, with extra checks on ownership and condition.
